Jambo. Where do I start.....
You see blacks were my least favourite
colour until I met Jambo......
Let's start from the beginning......
I helped whelp this litter. I have in
essence known him since the day he was born. I picked out the names
for the entire litter. Susan Coe (Akuaba Basenji's), an icon among
Basenji breeders, wanted a black and white. She wanted the call name
Bree. Hence the name Terrarust N Akuaba Jamboree. At 8 weeks old,
off to PA, USA he flew. Susan raised and showed him to his American
championship. Along the way he 'met' many lovely ladies!
Susan Coe then sold him to South
America. His new owners changed his name to Jambo. Jambo became a
globe trotter and earned numerous championship titles in Columbia,
Ecuador, Costa Rica and Puerto Rica. Along the way he met many more
foreign ladies. He was then flown back to his breeder, Terray Boomir,
to earn his Canadian Championship.
Cynthia Seeling picked Jambo up at
Vancouver International Airport in May of 2002 and whisked him
off to Burns Lake for his first Canadian show. At this show Jambo
placed First in group 3 times and second in group once, ending up
with a group one and a Best In Show from the classes to finish his
Canadian Championship in style! In actuality, it took longer
in hours for Jambo to fly here from South America than it did to
finish his Championship!
This is where I come into the story.
Terray had to leave for a judging assignment in Sweden and I was
hired to take care of the Boarding Kennels. I first met Jambo when I
went to feed him his dinner. He was in the house exercise yard with
Gizelle. From the moment we met Jambo and I became inseparable. I am
not only his handler but his full time house buddy as this sweet boy
lives with me and we go everywhere together.
We have attended many dog shows
together. Jambo is not always shown, he just enjoys hanging out.
Out of 67 Breed wins Jambo has 40 group
placements. 2 Best in Shows, 13 Group 1s, 13 Group 2s, 10 Group 3s
and 4 group 4s.
Some of his achievements are:
- Multi BIS Winner
- USA BCOA AOM Winner
- USA Stud Dog Honour Roll
- Champion in 6 countries
- First B/W in Canada to win a BIS
- First B/W in Canada to win Multi
BIS's
- First B/W in Canada to achieve a Hat
Trick
- First B/W in Canada to be an ALL
BREED Top Ten Hound
For two years in a row (2005 and 2006) Jambo
has earned an invitation to the AKC/ Eukanuaba National
Championship. This prestigious show is by invitation only. Only the
finest dogs are considered. It is quite an honour to be invited,
especially since Jambo will be a veteran on Dec. 7th, 2006.
Jambo attended his first
specialty veteran sweepstakes at 9 years old and won! He so enjoyed
himself being a 'show dog' again. Jambo still has it, strutting
around the ring like he used to do. He was so happy to hear the
applause again....
